Not Done Yet.

So ends the video Kyle Filipowski posted Tuesday morning to social media, announcing he’s returning to Duke for his sophomore season. That decision wasn’t necessarily unexpected — the possibility has existed for weeks now, as The Athletic reported in early March — but seeing it come to fruition is still … well, sort of surprising. Why? Because it isn’t easy to eschew a likely first-round landing spot in the NBA Draft; just ask two of Filipowski’s freshman contemporaries, Dereck Lively II and Dariq Whitehead, who are instead abiding by the Blue Devils’ time-tested one-and-done blueprint.

But not Filipowski.

For a multitude of reasons — improving his draft stock and potentially becoming a lottery pick, making a deeper NCAA Tournament run, capitalizing on NIL, and just generally enjoying the college experience, to name a few — the ACC Freshman of the Year is back, and now set to anchor Jon Scheyer’s second Duke squad. He won’t be alone, though; both Tyrese Proctor and Mark Mitchell — two other yearlong starters for the ACC tournament champions — return as well, forming the nucleus for what could be the No. 1 preseason team in the nation. (That will almost definitely be the case if veteran guard Jeremy Roach, who entered the draft while maintaining his college eligibility, ultimately decides to come back for his senior season.)
