Lance Guidry, the former head coach at McNeese and defensive coordinator at Marshall each of the last two seasons, is expected to be hired as Miami’s new defensive coordinator, multiple sources close to the search confirmed to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman. Here’s what you need to know:
Guidry, a 51-year-old Louisiana native and former defensive back at McNeese, was hired last month at Tulane to replace Chris Hampton, who left to join Oregon’s staff as co-defensive coordinator. Marshall finished 9-4, held six opponents to fewer than 13 points and won at Notre Dame last season.
Guidry replaces Kevin Steele, who was hired last weekend by Nick Saban to be Alabama’s defensive coordinator.
Marshall’s defense under Guidry was No. 3 in the country in yards per play and No. 2 in stop rate.
